Sleep loss can be actually a widespread problem with serious physical and economic consequences. Music such as modern relaxation relaxation may impact upon psychological, physical and psychological conditions, which may explain anecdotal reports of its own success being a normal sleeping aid. But, there is too little systematic data on how widely it's used, why folks elect for music for a sleep aid, or what music works; thus the underlying drivers to music-sleep effects continue to be unclear. We investigated music as being a sleep aid within the overall public using a mixed methods data paid survey (n = 651) that scored musicality, sleep habits, and open text responses on what music will help sleep and the reason why. In general, 62 percent of respondents stated they used music to help people sleep better. They reported fourteen musical genres containing 545 artists. Regression tree modelling revealed that younger people who have higher musical involvement proved somewhat more likely to make use of music to help sleep. Thematic analysis of this open text responses generated four topics that described why folks believe music will help sleep: music provides unique properties which stimulate sleep (Provide), music is part of a typical sleep pattern (Habit), music induces a bodily or state of mind conducive to sleep (Condition ), along with music cubes an internal or external stimulus that could otherwise interrupt sleep (Distract). This poll provides new evidence into the relationship between sleep and music at a people that ranged widely in age, musicality, sleep habits and stress grades. Diversity was found both in music choices, which reflected idiosyncratic preferences rather than any musical arrangement, and at reasons why music encourages good sleep, which went much beyond simple physical/mental comfort.
